Krillion beginner guide: make your first dive count
Learn the rare-answer trivia game streamers call Krillion, where a valid unusual answer scores more than the obvious one.
Start here
Krillion is a browser trivia game: each prompt asks for an example, and a correct answer scores more when fewer players gave it. The game runs at krillion.io; you do not need to download a Steam game to play the daily dive. Open the daily game, read the prompt and its limits, then enter one answer before time runs out.
This is the game Sean likely meant by “Krillion.” It is separate from Steam's One in a Krillion, an unrelated underwater action game by Beverly Krills. Double-check the title before looking up a guide or buying anything.
What streamers do
Twitch has a category named Krillion. StreamerVitals' 30-day tracked sample listed six channels that had broadcast in it, and StreamScout showed recent Twitch channels under that game category. These are third-party samples, not Twitch-wide viewer totals. A Krillion stream is a live round of category prompts: the streamer tries to give an answer that fits but is less common than the obvious pick, then reacts to the score and compares the result.
For viewers, the fun is to answer before the streamer submits. Pause your own search for a moment, pick a specific answer, and see whether it beats the crowd's response.
First-dive routine
1. Read every word of the prompt, including any bracketed limits. Those rules decide whether a clever answer is valid. 2. Use the first few seconds to name the broad category, then think of two or three specific examples. 3. Skip the first obvious answer if you can recall a less common answer that still clearly fits. 4. Type one answer and submit it before the timer ends. Speed alone does not make an answer rare. 5. On the results screen, learn which answers counted and how their rarity affected the score.
Tips
- Be precise before being obscure. A rare answer that does not fit the prompt will not score.
- Think of examples from different places, eras, or specialties instead of reaching for the first famous name.
- Read the answer rules closely. A prompt may exclude a type of answer or restrict the time period.
- Do not overthink spelling: the official FAQ says the game checks aliases and may offer a correction to confirm.
- Treat the score as a clue about the answer pool, not a judgment of your knowledge. The developer says answers can be missing and rarity depends on the prompt.
- Try the official Unlimited or themed modes if you want practice after the daily round.
Where to play
Play the free daily dive at Krillion's official site. The official site also lists Unlimited, themed packs, and an archive. It is a browser game; the unrelated Steam title One in a Krillion is not required.
